There are two methods to washing chenille sweaters. Hand washing and machine washing on delicate. Hand washing is the best method for this luxury fabric.
1. Spot Treat
First we suggest spot treating the sweater. For general dirt, use a gentle, low-chemical liquid laundry soap. Hold the garment over the sink and rub a small amount of your laundry soap into the stain with your finger. Focus on areas such as underarms, necklines, and cuffs.
For a deeper clean of the entire sweater. Add 2 cap fulls of a delicate detergent to a washbasin or sink filled with cool water. Immerse the sweater and gently swirl the water with your hands to evenly distribute soap. Soak for up to 30 minutes.
Rinse well by running cool water over the sweater until the water is no longer soapy.Avoid wringing the sweater. Instead, press the water out.
If you feel that hand washing is too time consuming. You can also use the delicate cycle on your washing machine. Select the option of cold water. Use a mild detergent. Minimize the amount of friction on the sweater by putting it in a laundry bag or pillow case with a knot at the top.
BEWARE too much agitation on the sweater will dislodge the pile.
Press out any additional water after the cycle is done. Lay the item flat in its natural shape on a drying rack. DO NOT put it in the dryer!
